Structural Fire Engineering

At Carbon Fire Engineering our engineers have extensive experience in the specialised field of structural fire engineering, delivering this service on iconic steel, timber and concrete projects across Australia.

Structural fire engineering focuses on assessing a buildings actual structural performance in the event of fire. It allows the true definition of global structural behaviour to be determined in order to evaluate whether the passive measures implemented within the building are appropriate to the building’s intended function and use.

At Carbon Fire Engineering we adopt the use of advanced modelling tools to firstly model the thermal environment within the building during a fire event which subsequently allows us to evaluate appropriate thermal boundary conditions critical to the structural fire analysis. Through the adoption of advanced thermal and structural modelling tools coupled with our knowledge of material science and structural behaviour, we then assess global structural behaviour to determine the likely modes of failure.

By evaluating material behaviours, load distribution and potential failure modes, our engineers develop strategies that are fit-for purpose and specific to the needs of each individual project. The passive protection strategies which result from our structural fire engineering analysis serve to enhance the performance of the structure while optimising design, reducing material costs, and significantly reducing construction timeframes.

Our past performance in this field is exceptional, with many of our previous projects now forming the benchmark throughout Australia and worldwide for modern structural fire engineering design.
